I dream myself to sleep

As darkness looms
And my duvet warms
I stroll to my familiar land
                             my land of make believe
It's held me dear since childhood
In that corner of my mind before sleep invades 

Back then I was an orphaned dragon
Fierce and afraid
I walked alone
And
Soared
High
Above fields of blue daisies 

When I grew
I shrunk
To a pixie 

I laughed at others misfortune
And helped cause havoc
Until
None of my imaginary friends
Cared
Enough to talk to me

 As night draws on
The insomniac in me wakes 

I chat to a man that's never existed
He tells me none of my past's my fault
I cry imaginary tears
For a lover that left to fight his own demons
And wonder if he'll return for me 

Though I should know
I'm a telepath now
But I never heard him leave 

Night stings my eyes
Sleep tries to drown me
I only pray I'll dream of him tonight
