The Magician

By Stranger

A top hat and cape
A bouquet of plastic flowers
A slight of hand, a wand's wave
Our love is magic

---

I walk onto the stage
Tip my hat and bow
You applaud; you are the audience
You are all I need

I open my mouth, an egg appears; it grows
Too large to escape; my teeth are prison bars
You applaud
I remove my hat and bow

From the egg, a raven hatches
Soft, black feathers muffle your name, all names
A claw-like beak pulls at my tongue
But a magician never reveals his secrets, ever

The raven becomes a dove, and dies
This should make me very ill
It does not
You rise to your feet and applaud

Now I ask for a volunteer
You tell me that you are flattered
But you do not believe in magic
I hand you my hat, and I applaud

The curtain falls between us
Lights dim and we wonder¦
(Even if there is no magic
There will always be wonder)

---

A coffin with a hidden door
A card dealt from the bottom
A puff of smoke, a flash of light
Our love is magic

She doesn't believe in magic, but you do magic, and both of you make magic. My brain hurts. Deliciously.

I enjoy the dance between illusion and emotion, the unveiling of human intrigue. Is the magic the trickery?... or our inner fascination?...even be it dark.
