Jewellery box
By Stephanie Sideways
Not so cunning as a fox
My curious little daughter went uninvited
into my jewellery box
lacking all dexterity
Her path was traced, all in reverse
Back from the latch, that she left hanging free.
A memory, like a secret note, unfolded from the gold
I smiled as I re-hooked and replaced
My heart, too swollen to scold
I remember having the same obsession...
All tiny fingers and bright button eyes
Sneaking a peak at my own mothers precious possessions.
'Baby, are you there ? Come here with mummy, my Sweet'.
I whispered special stories of heirlooms, and lent her some,
for a princess hour,
melting in the moment, watching my history repeat.

ahhh...the treasure of our treasures. A meeting between our past and our future, our memories and our dreams. All told in lovely rhyme and meter punctuated with iconic imagery: heart too swollen to scold... my mothers precious possessions... lent her some for a princess hour... watching my history repeat ... a story well told.
