A voice

By Stephanie Sideways

God is in all of us.
No actually
I am not religious.

But something God like
Inhabits, entwines
Our species of evolved minds

A rapist
A thief
Even a murderer
There stands my belief.

But they made a choice
To ignore the kindness
In that voice

They shut it out
More than that
They pulled out its tongue

Maybe they needed to
Like a sacrifice
Their bodies thrown to evil
Awash in a sea of eb and flow

As without evil
Good cannot live
Without takers
None would ever give
Without sorrow
How to fully understand joy?
With out building
Nothing to destroy.

Any other
opposing pair
On and on
A state of flux
throughout this species we belong

I think I chose to hear the voice
But I know very little and think a lot
Some here it VERY loud and clear
And as I have said
Some
Do
Not.

Author's Note:

I don't really get religion. I would never knock someone for believing in one though, but I would only question it if they were evil fuckers.

THOSE people are no exception to the rules of good and evil...chil d molesters and freaks walk among 'the pure and holy' just like the rest. I enjoyed your work.

Very good write. I enjoyed it. Religion can be a bit chaotic. I am not religious. Never have been, but I won't cut others down. I can't stand the holy rollers that try to tell me all about the bible & jesus or how wrong I am. Life is one hell of a ride, but I guess we take the good with the bad. It is a yin yang effect. A balance. Thanks for sharing :)

This is precisely why I am an existentialist... To each their own. What works for me may not work for you, why cause such a fuss over it?? Are we all not different with varying desires? ... Why do I need to find meaning in converting others to what I believe in? Be you and i'll be me, if we make it work it's a bonus! Live life and enjoy it!... Excellent write Ms. Sideways... P.S. I dig the new profile pic, purrrrr ;) !!!

Religion is a man-made construct, while God is a basic human need to explain the unknown perhaps. Much like the quote (paraphrased) "people who don't believe in a God, only believe in themselves, and other like-minded individuals". Bottom line: many atheists are really only agnostics. Actually it's a sucker's bet - make the wrong choice and at journey's end, you're screwed!

Yes you are right. I guess I am an agnostic atheist. And when you are dead you are dead. That's it. We just find the idea of that really hard to accept.?Well , guess I will never really know until I pop my clogs . So just make the most of this life and try and spread a little happiness and love! Aaahhhhh.

Quit wearing thos eclogs then, they will slip out from under you when least expected and leave you staring at the stars. Oh, and you can only pop then while walking through the goo (by my translation) - cheers Stephy!

That's kind. Thanks. I am as wise as a wombat though. This grew for a seed very lovingly planted in a comment by midnight's voice on my poem 'wishes washed in tears, also sort of about opposites.
