in my letter from Vietnam
By FadedBlues
[ just the
usual sappy stuff at the beginning.
couple lines about the USO show.
some remarks
about the weather (boring). a little about me
being
scared (really boring). oh, and then this: ]
when
I return, we will sit by the fire and hold
each other forever. tho
'forever' is only the moments
that heaven allows us. outside, the
moon casts
iridescent veils of light across a proud sky. and when
the fire reduces to ashes, and we have faded into an
angel's dream,
only the air will remain in the space
where we were, and the air will
whisper
'there was love here.'

I have in my possession two of my grandparents love letters. He was away, at war...she was home, young, in love and waiting for him to return...this was very touching and beautiful. Thank you.

Man's got to keep his mind out there...we're glad you did. Great little piece, FB, often the minute details are the most important, & I have discovered many times, the most interesting. Thanks for the read.

I never saved any of mine but know my ex-wife did, at least for a while. The ending was profound at any age, cheers!

A wonderfully different start, ringing with blackened humour. Then we get to enjoy the beautifully romantic lines, that expressed the longing for reunion so Vividly! This was an absolute joy!
