Table for Two, Dinner for One

By Stranger

The menu is made from
A single sheet of human skin
Stretched across a frame of brown bamboo
Your face has been tattooed upon it

As has your name
A dozen times
A dozen ways

I order the Number 9
I am told this is an excellent choice

You are meticulously prepared
With red cord,
Your limbs are bound behind you

You are served on a golden platter
Cold, naked
An apple in your mouth

Wide with anticipation,
Your eyes are supernovas

Impatient and snarling,
The beast within my belly

There is a brief silence before I feed
Then the sound of animals and chaos
Then quiet again

Wiping my mouth with my hand,
I ask for more
I am told there is nothing more
I understand

I return to the feast before me
Content, satisfied
But still very, very hungry

This is beautiful and terrifying, and more terrifying for its beauty. Brings to mind Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut, but far darker and richer. Agree with Aurora_Light about the quietLOUDquiet of that stanza, it works very well. I've re-read this a number of times and am not done yet. This is very powerful. You navigate the darkness like few others can.

definitely have to say i love the end, and the part about the feast itself, silent chaos then silence again, fits the mood perfect i think.

Beautiful write, the darker side of a feast. Canibalism to the soul's deepest desires.
