It only just dawned on me...

By Lylani

It's been so long
The memories fade
like blurred photographs
but my feelings never do
They are as sharp as pins
Pricking the stars in the sky
But only the rain drips through
On to lashes that once fluttered in love

As these tears rain down
my chest fills once more
with a longing ache
I gasp
Through the smog cloud of emptiness

When darkness steals
Another bleak day
I rest my head on pillows
of burning coals

Counting the
days...
hours...
minutes...
since you left
since I started waiting for your call

Then it dawned on me

You didn't leave because you had to
You left me because you didn't love me enough to stay

This imagery is painfully intense. It made me want to give you a hug. Something that really appealed was something possibly not intentional, The way the lines (days... hours... minutes...) stretch out with each progression. It added to the way I read it and the pain felt. A powerful piece
