The Number of the Beast

By TheBardOfBlasphemy

.

~~~~~~*~~~~~~*~~~~~~
The never ending search for god is a journey
(you shall find) fraught with lies and deception.
By looking past the lies with eyes focussed
upon planes of obscure vision –in this way you can
find the thought that created us in the beginning,
and continues to bind us all.
You'll have to wait your turn to learn
what secrets lie inside. For on paper scribed
this lie was penned in tune to a different mind.
Beware! For what is truth in one eye can
seem false within the other; drop all preconceived perceptions
for you can do with out.
Once accomplishing this you may find that sense
is a tool misused badly; your eyes are now
open to the beauty of god.
Once accomplishing this you may find that love
is a gift abused daily; your eyes are now
open to the glory of self.
COMPETITION
I want someone to be able to "find the thought that created us in the beginning" which is hidden amongst this poem. It's not especially difficult... when you know where to look.
The Prize
If you like, I'll send you a handwritten signed copy of this poem (or any poem I've written for that matter). I realise this sounds like a sucky prize. So I will also promise to read nine (9) of your poems from your profile (you can choose them if you want) and give you in-depth feedback on each.
Let the games begin!
Hints
Some people have come close to solving part of this puzzle. Thanks to everyone that has tried!
Memnoch is on the right track by asking:
is it "by looking past the lies with eyes focused upon planes of obscure vision"???
That is not the answer, but that is the path to finding the answer.
Melvin was getting me excited when he started talking about 666 being the number of the beast.
Peril also took this idea and ran with it... well spotted Peril:
the interlude thingies ~~~~~~*~~~~~~*~~~~~~ number six then six then six (one of my favourite numbers :)
666 may be the answer to the title, but not the answer i am looking for.
Once again, it is part of the path towards the answer...
Notice also, if you care, the number of lines for each of the verses...
6 lines then 6 lines then 6 lines... it really is all too evil =D
Lydia Jade has been killing herself on this... she is desperately close to the answer:
"there are three verses is it the sisxth line of each verse that gives the answer...or what?"
What, lydia, what.
!The Solution!
Lydia is my idol... she worked so hard...
i feel sorry for her. I'M SORRY LYDIA JADE!
I don't think she quite got there. Her brain burned out.
But my conscience is killing me... i'm going to let her sleep.
The solution is as follows... take the sixth word from each line... it spells out the original line to the poem... the "thought that created us in the beginning" ... "us" being words in the literal sense... i don't want to go into the submeanings and other readings of it, that's up to you.
To read this original line, the first line, you are reading vertically, not horizontally... an obscure plane of vision in terms of the way we normally read.
If you are too lazy to go back and find out for yourself what the sixth word of each line is... i'm reposting the poem below.
    This finding leads me to believe the answer is 666, although it's usually referred to as "the mark of the beast" ~Heather
    My answer would have to be my own thought, plus what I derived from your work: we created the thought to begin with. *shrug* :) ~Heather
