Named

By sole

I used to wear this coat when it got cold,
With some Long John's underneath.
A beanie on my head,
And gloves on my hands.
Layers and layers of brands.

After a long day
I'd eventually wander home.
Shedding these over paid, over weighed woes.
Taking off my clothes.
Exposed.

Shirts and pants would just pile up.
Like some microwave explosion
From a materialistic cup,
That I used to sip from.
That I now spit up from.
Trying to wake up some.

Tired of
This reckless consumer fun.
Angry at these Gucci crusades,
And Chevy brigades.
The cultural facade.
This Life Masquerade.

I'm afraid.

I'm afraid of another winter,
I'm afraid of growing cold.
I'm afraid of brands being bought,
And minds being sold.

I'm afraid when the name on your shirt,
Means more than the name from your birth.
I'm afraid for the future of our soceity.
The name brand city.
What a pity.

It's hard not to get caught up in fashion. I wrote a short song about it called "Pathways & Portals". Your words speak clearly, yet it's sooo difficult to act upon them I'm sure.

I really enjoyed the way you splayed this out. The way one thought followed the next like its only purpose was to do so. Extremely well written, and it hits upon so much truth. Excellent write.

I like the topic. I like the part about -when the name on your shirt means more than the name of your birth-. That part was powerful to me. Quovis
