Dawn filled night

By Adagios

Dawn filled night

Here embraced in ebon black
Swaddled in the cloth of night
Observed of all the grace i lack
I find you bathed in holy light
You seem suspended in the air
Neither standing nor reposed
And on your face a graven look
And in your hands a bloody rose
The thorns pricking those hallowed hands
And scuffed and bleeding are those feet
A thousand times i once massaged
Now tattered by some cobbled street
Your garment rent and here is torn
So soiled i scarcely identify
It is the dress you wore the eve
You were given to eternal lullaby
Yet here before these bleary eyes
Your shape and visage shines

It wasn’t the sight which led me hence
Thought a glow could be just sighted
It weren’t a sound that lead me there
Though a low hum was recited
It was the pulses quickening
The strange familiar winds of hope
Sudden onset of electric want
The eager catch within a throat
It woke me with a sudden jolt
Called me to the window hence
Bade remanent and a stiff coat
And out the door, and over fence
And through a clearing, and down a lane
And to a bend upon the path
And clearing this a glowing frame
Familiar smile, warming laugh
A gentle “hi”, halted on lips
I scarce recall having ever parted
And all at once my recollection
Of all was quite upstarted

I cannot speak of these dear things…
Of time and love and space
I only know what fullness is
And what its absence makes
A gentle talk and loving looks
And “god ive missed you so’s”
And “can you stays and can i go’s”
Were spoke on that cold road
And pureness was as real as brief
For brevity is our curse
And sunlights dawn with it was drawn
A memory of her hurst
Starting in fright, having passed the night
And finding myself alone
In a bed, and in a house
Woken from a dream of “home”

Here embraced in wretched greys
Swaddled in the ache of light
Observed of all the grace I’ve lost
You leave me bathed in morning light

Beautiful and sad, but I love how you wrote it... made me feel heavy with saddness.

That closing stanza is a knife to the gut. Great poem. It held my attention quite well.

Hi Ad and liked very much the way you brought this full-circle with the opening and then the follow-up closing; with a metaphorical journey of melancholy. Cheers! - Dan
