By Intoxicating Delirium
Twenty four…
It’s just a number
Except that it’s
Anything but
Just a number
It’s full of should have been
And could have been
And why didn’t you do
All the things you were
Supposed to do
So much potential
Wasted on a girl
Who is never on time
Who is always behind
Who is out of place,
Lines starting to show
Too many 5 am nights
Her martini, now a foe
No husband to speak of
Or anything close
Will she ever find love
Not with her wining and woes
Kids… well that’s interesting
Never in a million years
Did she think this could be
A problem or something to fear
You’re almost to 30
Then you can’t bare
Without complications
My god, don’t you care?
To have a baby by 30
Well I must prepare
Marry the next guy
Who seems a decent pair
Maybe it’s just realizing
Life isn’t fair
You only get one chance
And if you blow it beware
At twenty four you’ll realize
You don’t have a prayer

Excellent ink. As reader I could almost feel the room shrinking as I read. Well done.

Lovely write, enjoyed reading this very much and could relate to a lot of your words. "no one likes you when you're 23" just screamed in my head as I got to the last lines. Thanks for sharing this!

Ah the little white lies of a society with blinders on. Make no promises, accept no critique. Carpe Diem, little sister, Carpe Diem. Thank you for the hindsight.

Never thought a number could hold so much emotion. An even number at that.
