Marco Polo
By Bluegirl
"Marco"
I'm in a pool
with friends
"Polo"
They answer
Giggling
"Marco"
They are all
Pretending they are having fun...
"Polo"
They say, and begin to inch away from me
"Marco"
They are trying to avoid me
Not in game, but in life
"Polo"
Their voices get distant
And I am beginning to see it...
Through closed eyes
"Marco"
I chant again
As they slowly leave the pool
"Polo" The last one chants
As they walk away
"Marco..."
My voice trails
My arms drop
And I realize-
I have been abandoned,
Yet again.

beautifully written... i understand the feelings here really well... but sometimes, we think those people are gone and they've just been underwater, not responding because they couldn't hear you. sometimes they really do leave. it's hard...
