Birdy

By Stephanie Sideways

Father Time was beginning to fade.
Mother Nature, returning from her latest venture,
was forced to shake him from near slumber.
Her keys she had mislaid.

Wearily, he fumbled for the latch.
In waltzed a whirlwind of energy and chatter.
He cursed. Another late night ,but no matter!
For her energy, he was no match.

Father Time would just go with the flow.
Mother Nature had a diary crammed to eternity.
An expert at balancing the books of entropy.
People to see and places to go.

On went the flame to boil the kettle.
An unusual glint in her wild eyes
He poured, wondering of what her story would comprise
(When she could manage to settle!)

Father Time reminisced of when the moon was new.
Mother Nature won his heart when the dust had laid.
Once the air cleared, together they made
many happy accidents with niches to Pursue

One child had grown too big for their shoes.......
The humans. They had stuck their thumb in too many pies.
Stole from the other children and made them cry
The world and his wife they had misused

Father Time wished they'd been more sublime.
Mother Nature was sad that the most evolved
couldn't collect conscience and spare forests of old
Felling acres of trees at a time

She cursed at the concrete and missing fossil fuel.
She’d freely and gladly shared out all her treasure
Doing endless jobs , much of it was a pleasure,
but some of it was so seemingly cruel.

Father Time listened as she told of the tsunami.
Mother Nature spoke of the guilt she felt
as she shook the ocean bed and the devastation dealt
and the passing of Seventy thousand trees.

So what was it she wanted him to see?
She pointed at one tree standing clear above the Carnage
"That's was me”! She gestured, with mocking rage
"Flicking them all the birdy!"

Father Time gave her a look that was half a frown and half a smile.
Mother Nature chuckled and stuck her finger up
'it’s either laugh or cry' she said, putting down her cup.
They sat and watched the world go by
For a while

Stark message and a wonderfully creative format. I think you might like "Lament the Wild Wood" that I wrote a couple years back when I was new; before I became old growth. I never knew the Tsunami killed to many trees, unless some were victims to the radiation from the Fukishima reactor. Thanks for the fine tale told!
