a poem is lost
By FadedBlues
a poem is
lost
it wanders alone and fragile
in the vastness of time
and space
battered by the winds of oppression
trying desperately
to avoid
the chasms of oblivion
it holds the dreams and
wishes, the ideologies
that we hide in the vanity
and the myth
of poetry
it's endowed with the answers
to life's mysteries,
the elucidation
that would rationalize
our dubious existence
it's a textbook of instructions
regarding the nature of love
detailed guidance in nurturing and care
to make love joyful and
abiding
it holds the keys to
manifesting peace
among
all the villages
of our imperiled planet
all the knowledge that
we need
the knowledge we seek and fear
it carries the secrets
that we will never know
a poem is lost

Believe it or not, were the entirity of my work lost it could be described as this that you've so aptly penned. When a poem is lost it is a terrible thing, yes? There is one named 'Ancient' that I wrote for a special mother figure who has now passed on and somehow, with her, went the poem...gone forever. I mourn its loss.

My last ex-wife threw out a box of completed poems I had, over 1,000 poems. No backup, or copies, so they were lost forever. It was my own personal Dachau. So any time someone speaks of lost poems I sit up, pay attention and take it personally.

Poetry, usually in the form of satire, does indeed have a uniques place in history. It also provides a vehicle to protest the status quo, without losing your head (maybe?). Immaculate proposition and so true too, thanks FB!

We write what we know, think, wonder about, feel and have experienced. Sometimes a poem gets through to a reader who grasps it and finds a familiar truth, others just float away on the waves of life... Love you and your never ending thoughtfulness - XXOO

Never not once in my life until I saw the movie romeo and juliette with decaprio did I see or hear or know of poetry. After the movie I looked it up and spent days reading poetry. The first thing I ever wrote though was to my mother when I was young, didn't consider it poetry, she found it and slammed me so I was terrified to ever write anything again. I take alot of shit concerning my avenue with poetry but no one realizes Ihad known nothing of it so i'm merely learning as I go and from reading. love you fadedblues.. your poetry is always breath taking.

Poetry is truly a form of art that is fading. I do not claim to be any good at writing, but for me it is a for of expression. To be able to express ones own thoughts and feelings in writing instead of voice is at times the only way people can actually say what they are feeling.

Indeed poetry is in peril. It's like a treasure sunk at sea. But it's valor it's undeniable. Although many people fail to recognize that. Really enjoyed the reading. Truly described here the nature of poetry.
