Self Portrait

By darkness falls

Look in the mirror
Who am I today?
Introvert, pessimist
Cynic, fatalist
Can't even meet my own eyes
Eyes that hold a hint of madness
And an under-current of desperation
This expression of deep depression
Makes people shy away
So if  you ask me I'll shrug
In a self-deprecating way
And claim a sensitivity to the light
As the reason I never take off
These dark wrap-around shades

Wish we could cheer you up here at DP. Your face does speak volumes in that you exhibit the "san paku" or "three whites" around your eyes (Japanese face language). You are indeed sad and down-hearted, if not very dispirited or worse (at least your picture is). Keep writing because you are indeed talented and we need skillful poets of all callings. Cheers, bro!
