Thousand

By RhymeBound

i'm but an errant fool that strolls
'long crooked path down dreary road.
i'm nimble and i'm fleet of foot
despite my grave and heavy load.

my heart weighs more than thousand stones,
for what has been denied to me.
i wonder how a hollow husk
could such a heavy burden be.

i wander with a longing for
the kiss of the horizon far.
i chase it without map or plan,
am guided by no guiding star.

the road is paved with countless shards,
of shattered hopes and broken dreams,
with ivory, gold, obsidian shreds
and many cold forged moonlight beams.

and from these shards a thousand cuts
adorn my feet with crimson bright.
a bloody trail marks red my wake,
runs past the hills and out of sight.

i wander 'neath a pregnant moon,
she looms above bedded on clouds.
she wears a faint and fickle gown
that's woven out of misty shrouds.

it's but her light that shines on me,
yet i cast thousand shadows black.
they follow me where'er i go
and whisper soft behind my back.

they tell me of her sweetest smile,
her flowing hair her glowing eyes,
speak with her voice, don her perfume
and constantly my loss apprise.

my anger's that of thousand fists
that rise against the clouded sky.
my fury that of thousand voices
joined united in a cry.

but all my wrath has no direction,
lacks a target, has no aim.
though a fool i know full well
that i have but myself to blame.

on these my lips are thousand songs
and all were sung a thousand times
and flowing from my feather forth
to parchment there are thousand rhymes.

and all the poems, all the songs,
they tell the same tale thousand fold
of how a fool with foolish hopes
holds on to what he just can't hold.

and still i walk and still i wander,
wonder if i'll ever rest.
i'm blind a martyr for no reason
on a grand, but pointless quest.

Soothingly rhythmic with a powerful story. I absolutely absolutely loved this. Great structure and flow. Thank you for sharing. I think this is a fave.

  • A former member wrote: your style reminds me a little of William Blake and that's about the best compliment I could give anyone. You write in an older fashioned sort of way but not corny or outdated -the 6th stanza is a dream. Damn -too many great writes today.
