Local Gossip Kills Again
By hate_doll
That Saturday, at tea
Those ladies were all talking about Jennie Lee
She had been seen with the minister, or was it the mailman?
And for poor Jennie Lee, the sadness began
Those ladies then told their friends
And each time, the story bends
Then soon it was the mayor, and the police chief
People trapped in disbelief
And soon enough she was an outcast
She was hurt and harassed
Poor Jennie, cried herself to sleep
She couldn’t believe it, she had become a creep
She was such a good lady
Never were her actions shady
But when the ladies talked, they didn’t stop
And for Jennie Lee, her life took a big drop
People whispered, and people stared
And young Jennie, she became ever so scared
She didn’t come out of her house, not even for mail
For no one asked, just talked with detail
And no one was prepared, for what came next
For all were perplexed
She hung herself, so all could see
What became of Jennie Lee
Everyone wondered why,
But no one would cry
But they never knew,
Jennie Lee was at home, she had no clue
She never went out with the mailman, the minister,
The mayor or the chief, what they cooked up was awfully sinister
Those ladies never knew, they never will
How many saddened souls they kill
Jennie Lee was then old news,
So something new and evil brews
About Nancy and her rendezvous
Another poor spirit those ladies will abuse
Will the gossip ever stop?
Maybe when it kills again
But who can tell?
We don’t know..we never will
Hey, did you hear about that girl.....
...whytt *03

Goddamned people talking in church!
Reminds me of Poe's 'BALLAD OF ANNABELLE LEE', I think.

As sad as it is, I think I am only just now REALLY beginning to see into your talent for words and emotions. In this you've created such a detailed vision of feeling and moral...it's amazing. ~DW~

yeah. exactly. stories told can often make or break a reputation, and woe to the few who try to stand in the way of gossip.

Great write, so true in many cases. I knew someone this quite suits, but they're no longer with us, same sad ending to such a bright and happy young girl. Great write, but I'm still believing you somehow tapped into my mental health record.
