Black Rose

By HeadpatSlut

Black Rose

A rose that was for my love picked-
A token for Her love to me-
The scarlet rose by serpent licked-
The beauty she could see.

Careful then I took the plant-
And plucked it from the vine-
To save myself from mental rant-
I took her hand in mine.

“I give to thee this Rose of Black,”
Proposed I thus to her-
The momentary looking back-
Young lovers that we were.

The Rose was black and grown in hate-
The vines that have grown to cover-
My love for her was come too late-
The Death of my first lover.
