Odin



He was of Bor and Bestla born-
He is the ruler of the Gods-
For Wisdom, out his eye was torn-
He takes numerous facades.

On Yggadrasil he did hang-
Straight for nine nights and days-
The sacred songs, he learned and sang-
He mastered mighty ways.

Blessed by eighteen mystic charms-
He knows no fear nor threat-
Immune to any wounds or harms-
Valhalla's throne is set.

Two ravens both of blackest shade-
Report to him by night-
All that they see, their journeys made-
They tell it to him right,

The powers that are his are known-
For he is the King of Kings-
The limits of his might, unknown-
Of him we skalds do sing.

His steed called Slepnir, Loki's son-
Eight legs with golden hooves-
Among his kind, the only one-
Through the Worlds Nine he moves.

In his chariot he goes-
Bruanhilda by his side-
The Honored Dead whose names he knows-
He claims those who have died.

He takes them up, and crosses Bifrost-
And takes them to Valaskjalf-
And there, with friends, whose lives were lost-
He sits upon Hlidskjalf.

The God of Wisdom, War, and Rhme-
And Poetry and Death-y
His sight eternal, as is his time-
He has no final breath.

Our God of Wisdom, Rhyme and Song-
And Lord of Death and War-
His immortal legacy is strong-
Alfadir, evermore.


Bor and Bestla: Bor and Bestla were the the great Giants whose bodies created the earth, they gave birth to Oden.

Yggadrasil(Yiggadrasil): The World Tree, also called the Tree of Life, it symbolizes all forms of life in all the Nine worlds, it it will only burn upon the Ragnarok(End of Days)

Slepnir: i actually have another poem up explaining what he is, so check on that if you have some free time.

Bruanhilda: Queen of the Valkeries, warrior-handmaidens to the Gods themselves.

Bifrost: The Rainbow Bridge that leads up to Valhalla, the afterlife for fallen warriors.

Valaskjalf:"Shelf of the Slain", The name of Oden's meal hall.

Hlidskjalf: Name of Oden's throne.

Alfadir: All-father, or father to all, so called because Oden is in fact the father of many gods, including Thor, Hod, Balder, and Hermod. Oden is also king of the gods, hence the term.
