Endless Oceans of Sorrow

By Taunting The Reaper

Slow even steps echoing faintly in the distance
like so much rain from a once glorious storm.
Your promises held me together with a razor
twine that cut me until I bled
the sweetest drops for you.
I tasted each word from your poison lips
as they spilled into my mouth with a
bittersweet flavor that scoured my tongue
ever so gently.

Your liquid eyes swam oceans of dread
as shimmering waves danced and broke
on shores of haggard, pale cheeks
once flushed with hope now hollow
and waiting for the dust to
gather around you like so many dreams.

You made your bed that day.
Your cold, dead hands wrapped around
this putrid heart still spilling it's
it's frothy venom of rotting smiles.
You stuffed your pillow with it while
I emptied the darkest drops that lingered
for that very last beat,
the one that told you
I had cried my way into the warmest grave.

A fallen sky claimed every tear
and bought you to that place of frozen voices
and ice cold words.
A place where you lost your prayers
on sunken ships abashed of journey’s
never sailed.

Now dark adventures mark your plight.
A casket of forgotten innuendo sings
like a tyrant of lost faith.
I saw you swallow each memory
in hopes of restoring that empty husk
once filled with song.
And yet, all that remained echoed in sopping steps
with drops of yesterday pouring into endless oceans.
