  • "never forget this... never forget... too many only ever see the one side and take it for granted, expected that that is the way things are. That might be easy and safe, but..... only if bubbles never pop. And somewhere, somewhen, they always do."

  • "can't help but think of this as a lovecraftian prelude... this shouldn't exist, but it does, and i know we shouldn't, but we're going to go there anyway, damnable curiosity"

  • "i think really depends on how micro- or macro-cosmic you look at any given situation. It is his avowed moral belief that homosexuality is wrong. It is then ethical to him to do whatever he sees fit to right that wrong. The problem is there is no universal standard for what is and what is not moral or ethical, what is good, evil, et cetera. Zoom out some and as an extreme you can see this same thing play out rather brutally throughout history with the monotheistic religions, the meme of "there is only one God" cannot coexist side-by-side with "there are many gods" or "there is only one god but it's this one instead". This single idea has and still does create moral and ethical justification untold human butchery. Without a universal standard, morals and ethics are entirely subjective and as such are best suited for establishing an artificial class system, extra differentials between "us" and "them". The closest we have to a universal standard is the localized laws of the lands and while perhaps most of the laws of a given land, most of it's people agree with, and most of the laws are enacted for the general good of all, that is still a system created by an elite few forced and enforced on the many. It's a catch-22. Morals and ethics are vital in bringing together communities and countries together without devolving into survival of the fittest, but who decides the morals, and that is the fittest. So in the end, is Mr. Cathy acting moral and ethical? He can act this way and so he does, and therefore it must be moral and ethical. "

  • "i press.... echoes reaching through almost a decade now to still haunt... in the meaning? in the connection? which haunts more? the futility of sending messages back in time? I dunno... I miss you though... :/"

  • "And I do appreciate all the concern and care this site, and I know you personally do, in fighting the tide of plagiarism on the net. :) Of everything I've ever writ, this is the most frequently copied... annoyed at the plagiarism yet humbled that something i write can actually have such a far-reaching effect... • "I hate to break it to you but it's the other way around. He posted the poem in January of this year. You can tell by the earliest comment on this poem, March 10, 2003, or even that it was voted poem of the day May 31, 2010, precedes this poem by months or years. It was originally a love letter written for my wife just vaguely rewritten to be posted. I'm sorry that your favorite poet is a liar."

  • "Something about this I'm still trying to figure out, in particular the ending... I love the phrasing about the unloaded gun clucking like a tongue with nothing to say, amusing and pointed... it says everything and nothing... I like much too the ebbing and flowing thru the poem of the gun's luster, I'm guessing much like the ebb and flow of emotions attached to him through the time period... I'm guessing it's been a while since he left, long enough for the tide to rise and fall and rise again... i guess where i've been struggling is the ending, so resolute, so determined, just waiting for him to return to... but there's still a catharsis about it, the gun's already been dulling again... yeah, just struggling because the obvious ending just didnt feel right... everything's already ebbing, already dulling... there's security in the vigilance but it's forced and the cracks are already there..."

  • "all this talk about love keeping us dry and whatnot, but then the only real emotion the narrator shows herself is the spiteful wishing that the girl with the umbrella would get wet and then the narrator stays dry despite her only displayed emotion as spite"

  • "i have mixed feelings about this poem... the rhythm, the flow, the wording, all that, it is an excellent write... it is just the last two lines of this poem though that seem to let me confused..."
