Shadows for Company
By CharlottesWeb
Silence in the dark
Breaths slow and still
Without the motion,
Shadows just melt
Quietly, they don’t resist
Nor cry for help
Through an open window
A night breeze peers in,
Slowly pulling at the curtain
Tasting the scene
Retreating to a safer space
Far from this room,
Far from this face
A flame is lit, an action released.
Raising past shadows,
Shadows that dance and call.
Reaching for attention,
Though trapped on these walls,
And held within the rhythm,
Of the flame that controls.
Little flicker of orange and blue
Quick to change edges
Quick to blur truth
Quick to forget that I control you
