The Use of Fear (sonnet)

By dwells

When spring arrived the snowflakes had to know
While timid creatures woke across the land
Another season to be filled with woe
But timid creatures never took a stand

A victimhood was all they had to give
No quarter would be given to the plan:
The wisdom of the ages could not live
Redoubled in their efforts, they began

By summer they were triggered to renew
(the timid creatures cancelled once again)
For they, the vaunted worthy of the few
Knew power was the god of mortal men

Unworthy, they became the future’s heirs
Who made us fear, before they made us theirs
