Trippin’ on the thoughts of yesterday
Disgust in what I’ve become today
Treading water and not caring to feel
Knowing I’m on a road to never heal
One more dusty road after another
In this empty echo of a universe I suffer
Back roads, passing another grove of lifeless trees
Reflection of the fallen leaves
Down on the ground-- beautiful as they fell
But I’ve always been a little too late and now I’m in hell
I smell the rot of fallen desperation
I see it in these rotting leaves
This is what it is to be me
Surrounded by beauty-- yet all alone
Soon the leaves will be dust too
Perhaps then I’ll be able to again see, you…
