...Blight of the soul

By SolApathy

Burn me with the embers of memories I dare not hold
Tattoos of my sins, burned into the fleshy memories, within
I smell the acrid stench of the choices I failed to make
Do you remember yours?
Do they make you almost break?
Under the load of decisions made in haste
Indecision of chances you didn’t take?
Burden of the path we didn’t partake
How deep in the well of indecisiveness have you fell?
Every night in the shadow of these memories within our drinks
Torture us to the brink

Think of memories lost; unable to fathom the cost
At first light, feel the blight as the day comes
Robbing us of peace we know we don’t deserve
In this prison behind our feigned smiles
Knowing I am not alone in my isolation
My soul withers; as does yours
Back to back we embrace our fate
If only we would have turned to see
Each other’s’ eyes held the love to set us…Free
Hold hands, heal our souls, and make our own
…Sweet memories

That "Road not Taken" I know it well Sol; but I got it right eventually - life can be long. Cheers my friend! - Dan

I gave this a 10. Really great piece. I have read it a few times and will probably read it a few more

I love how you capitalized Free. For me that just added something. This is relatable for me on a level I wish it wasn't. There is something about the way this was written that makes it stand out for me. As always, never disappointed.
