*A Nonny Moose?

By Sketso

I like you...

do you like me?

Check ___yes or ___no

It started out simply enough,
something out of a simpler past,
and brought a smile, like only simple things can,
but it went on...

We used to know each other,
though I doubt you'll remember,
and you liked what you saw
in those days long past...

I used to bring a smile to your face
every time our eyes met.
When I looked at you,
or was it you looking at me?
I could never quite tell which was which,
but we smiled, just the same

you used to have dreams
of magnificent and glorious things,
and the future had wings
that far outflew your sorrows...

for they sought out tomorrow
without restraint, and nary a complaint
about how today just didn't seem to work out

nothing was impossible then...
I could tell by your walk
and the way that you'd talk
about successes and tears
and overcoming fears

you wanted to escape this place,
back in those days,
when you knew my face,
and could look upon it without a shudder,
and utter my name without dismay

,,,
that was before the darkness fell...
before I let you down with failure
after failure, after failure, after failure

the years when the tears in my eyes
darkened, like clouds, the stars in your skies.

you remember...
the ones you used to wish upon

remember the weeks on end
when you would berate me with words
of hate that grated on the slate of your soul?

It was then I disappeared, out of fear
for the years that were coming.

never thought I'd see you again,
my  friend, and I almost died several times
through those decades of solitude
...

never, that is, until our eyes met again,
just this morn...  your mourning in full retreat

it surprised me so much, I nearly fled in terror

but there was a glimmer of recogniton,
and a hint of contrition when you saw my condition,
and my hopes climbed anew!

for you see...

I am...  you.

in reflection, somewhat,
before the darkness came.
yeah...  you know my name

and I'd love to fall in love with you again...
with your dreams, and your hopes,
and the steps you take on the slippery slopes of life

there are still stars in my eyes
with hopes of grandeur in the future,
and I'll use them to suture the tears in your soul
you inflicted upon self when you gave up all hope
and settled for doldrum routines

we've got a long row to hoe,
right where we left off, we can give it a go...

if you want

but before I risk it, and set myself up for rejection,
I've just gotta know...

PLEASE...
