among the stars, love burns

a heart that has been broken
will never fully repair
the pain is great
the memory is greater

a binding love
a love that is truly immortal
can only be written in the stars

where else might it be scribed?
on parchment? on leaves of linen?
on a thing so dispassionate
as a computer screen?

I have desired. I have lusted.
I have loved.
among these, love is
a fragile flower
a genuine grace
the greatest gift

we are naked, and we are hungry,
and our thirst is a savage beast.
where may we be comforted,
except by love’s hand

there is hurt
in every man and woman
who has loved and lost

I am a poet ~
there must be more of it in me
