Purgatory

By FearlessDragon

I awaken to the sound of your screams
I see you kneeling in a pool of blood

My blood...

Your tear drops hit like waves
Crashing in slow motion,
Echoing like thunder

Your body trembles as your mind goes blank
Too horrified to muster a word
Gutturals roll out of your throat
Weeping like a monster in its sleep

My shattered skull lies broken at your knees
While my brains strew upon the lampshade
A revolver in my hand
Resonates the stench of burnt steel
As I lay contorted in a lake of crimson

The dead weight of my carcass
Falls limp in your arms
For our final embrace

Levitating upward in a beam of light
You're floating further from my reach
I twist and strain
Rejecting its pull
Tearing away from its grip

Your face pours into your blood soaked hands
I gently rest my fingers upon your shoulder
Looking up, bloody palm prints on your face

I see that you are...

ME...

Is this a dream?
I wonder...

Turning back to see the light
A fragment pierces my eye
As the portal narrows,
Closing completely

It is not a dream,

I'm trapped somewhere in between
The life I had and eternity

A self-made Purgatory...

My restless spirit wanders aimless
Destined to drift alone
Mourning myself forever

Nothing has changed.

The finality of death. Hard to believe how frail we really are when all we want is to expire. But once that line has been crossed, and we throw away this body, there is no getting it back. Haunting - XXOO Scholar

Oh no, they took their life but still they find no peace! How awful! Great but heart wrenching!
