A Song In My Heart

I sit on the porch steps and stare at the picture she gave me, a picture of a heart-breakingly beautiful rocker girl...
"Def Leppard" I think, and "Photograph" plays on the radio.
The feelings I have for her are tearing me apart, but there's nothing I can do, she's in love with my best friend...
"Dokken" I think, and "In My Dreams" plays on the radio.
I know she's the one, but she seems so happy with him that I know there's no chance for me, I want her to be happy...
"Bon Jovi" I think, and "She Don't Know Me" plays on the radio.
So I go on and try to live my life and admire her from afar, it's better than not seeing her at all...
"Poison," I think, and "I Won't Forget You" plays on the radio.
A year goes by and now they're engaged. My heart is in flames, and he wants me to be his best man?
"Great White," I think, and "House Of Broken Love" plays on the radio.
So I bury my feelings and try to forget her, try to get on with my life...
But my heart cries "Scorpions," and "Still Loving You" plays on the radio.
Time rolls on, I party hard and often, burning the candle at both ends, drinking to keep from thinking...
My guardian angel whispers "Skid Row," and "Youth Gone Wild" plays on the radio.
I sink into drugs and alcohol but it doesn't really work, the misery in my heart just made worse by the toxins in my body...
And somebody yells "Play some W.A.S.P.!" and "Blind In Texas" plays on the radio.
Then one day I hear that they're over and done and in my heart I wonder "Is she still the one?"
And my heart says "Heart," and "What About Love?" plays on the radio.
Well, maybe I should give her a call. What could it hurt? She might need someone to talk to...
"Vixen!" says a voice inside me, and "Edge Of A Broken Heart" plays on the radio.
She says she's glad to hear from me! She says she'd love to see me! My heart skips a beat...
"Gotta hear some Whitesnake!" I yell, and "Is This Love?" plays on the radio.
So we start seeing each other whenever we can, and talk on the telephone for hours. Something good is happening here...
"Helix!" I think, and "Heavy Metal Love" plays on the radio.
One night on the couch, she's snuggled up to me and I'm playing with her long black hair, when she looks up at me and says "I think I'm falling in love with you." Her beautiful blue eyes are shining with the light of a thousand stars, and I softly kiss her lips and hold her tight, and tell her I've loved her for so long...My head is spinning, and the image of a Firehouse flashes through it, and "Love Of A Lifetime" plays on the radio.
I carry her into the bedroom, and afterward I watch her for a long time as she sleeps, then gently slide out of bed and make my way to the back yard, too excited and happy to sleep. I lay down on the grass, my heart full of love and my head full of wonder and the sky ablaze with color as the sun sets. I hear a soft noise, and then she's laying beside me, covering us both with a blanket. She lays her head on my chest and I put my arm around her, and pull her as close as I can, and together we watch the flames in the sky. I think to myself, "I'll be happy like this for as long as it lasts...And she lifts her head and looks deep into my eyes, and smiles that radiant smile. And in my head I hear her say "I know how long it will last." My eyes widen in surprise and disbelief, and she laughs at my expression, and in my mind i hear her whisper "Kiss," and "Forever" starts to play on the radio...
