...Cardboard Castles

By SolApathy

Imperceptible reflections
Lost in the daze of expected perceptions
Pass him without a smile
This man has walked miles
Grimaced by society
Finds no reason for sobriety
In shadows he calls home
So long without love shown
In cardboard castles hang his reservoir rags
Clothing on this withered soul, sags
Entertained by the simplicity of drizzling rain
For a moment he forgets his pain
Lost in echoes of this musician’s dream
Listen to the song as the rainfall sings
In the end though, it’s all pretend
He takes another swig –making amends
Knowing tomorrow will be just the same
He dreams to end the pain
Imperceptible reflections
A smile of deflection
You’ll never find the sadness until you look beyond the reflection
Break the cycle of faulty perception
Learning that he was once you
Before the huge crack in life he fell—Through
