Forgettable
By Recycled
The thing that hurts the most
Is that I am so forgettable to you
I am only space filler
The last choice
You’ll call, if no one else is home
But hang up when call waiting is activated
I ride in the trunk of your car
Because even the back seat is taken
I fill that tiny piece of your life
That needs dependability/assurance
I am the .1% of your life
That makes it 100% complete
I am the 5th chair in the orchestra of your life
Playing a supportive role
To those who mean something to you
Keeping me in an expendable role
Makes my position precarious
If I make demands
I will be denied forever
So I stay the bottom feeder
In the aquarium of your life
Quietly accepting what little you give me
Surviving on less than emotional minimum wage

This is really powerful. This poem really speaks to me, and I'm sure it does to others, of how painful a relationship like that can be. And the worst part? You always find yourself in a vicious cycle, finding yourself in a relationship like that over and over again. Thank you for expressing this so eloquently.
