City (e)Scape

By hate_doll

I was floating past the bodegas
And wine cellars of the city
while I dreamt of nights
That led me through to tomorrow
Gracefully, with the moon
Whispering white doves
Above a naked mountain range

I crave intensely
The morning haze, milky
And mystic spirals like smoke
Curling from the cigar of a tweed man
Idling his pocket watch and
Coughing up marbles
As I walk past

"No Entry"
Signs glitter in my eyes
It reminds me of sequins
On a new year's dress
Or sunlight relfected
To cut diamonds
Into sapphire waves

Until the sun retires
I rest on benches, search
The wood for carvings
I find "Rest In Peace"
And make believe I am resting
On the great roots of redwoods
Not of skeleton skyscrapers.

Gods, this is beautiful... I love the imagery, and the fact that it has such great meaning without beating the reader over the head with significance; subtle, beautiful

Lovely and magical, I saw it all in my mind's eye. I loved the second stanza the best. Captivating work honey. :)

Like the double name...and the signs so celebrational...transformed, makes me think of Northern Cal. and the ugly parts of cities there, and longing to return to emerald triangle.
