resolve

By swing_the_hammer

Nights collided with mornings; I wake up after noon and eat breakfast at lunchtime. I dreamed about locking doors and taping them shut and other things I can't remember but can't quite forget. Arguments erupted and died down again after rage faded away to apologies, and now everyone's sorry that anything happened, and he hopes this won't change anything in our relationship. The work is tiring for all of us. Days go by and I still feel like I'm sleepwalking.
I kissed him from one year to the next as midnight came rushing through the door and on its way to 3 o'clock. People rise and swirl in vertigo, swaying towards the steps and leaving. We half-carried our stumbling friend to the car and home, leaving him mumbling incoherently with his mother. We go into his room, where the TV flashes light on his face and he holds me until we decide we should sleep before dawn arrives.
When I get up the next morning I leave without waking him, because he looks so peaceful in his dream-place, and because I am too tired to form sentences correctly. So I settle for blowing a kiss and whispering an "I love you" before I head down the hallway and out the door into the cold, January air.
It's a new year, babe. Can we reconcile for the last one?

The swirling sense of ennui and deja vu-like confusion I see here are tastefully and skillfully conveyed, and the last line just made me want to read it again. I think I have a fetish for last lines. Hah. Great work, hammer.

By the way, your name reminds me of the saying "to someone with a hammer, everything looks like a nail." Also, this is my 1000th comment. I guess I'm an official DP slut now!
