...Winter's Bane

The thought of a day that would never come
Barreled down on us as fast as a bullet from a gun
Nowhere to run
No place to hide
As I see the fear of the future in your now dimming eyes
A song spoke of a sunshine that never comes
Yet it came, it went
And now my soul is spent
Far too few sunsets came to pass
Me, you were supposed to outlast
Now within this casket you are cast
Beyond my ability to save
Internally I rage
Feelings dense as a neutron star
I carve into my soul one more scar
Stars of fallen dreams stream
From these wounds—They scream
Dark and broken
My internal grief—Unspoken
Wondering where in the universe you are
Are you the wind, sun, or the rain
Or just a reminiscent pain
I explode as a torrential rain
Thunder--my screams
Lightning—The chaos of my dreams
I open my eyes and my tears sting
Out of a window I stare
Leaves of fall falling without a care
Dreading my next breath of this winter air
