King Lizard

By Purposelessness

Languid lizard
Leaky gizzard
Wholly withered
Soul delivered

I don’t want to die
I’ll get up and fight
....  ....  that’s a lie
I’ll slip into the night

Save my face, my words, my works
Write my book, my songs, my irks

Remember my colour, only seen by the blind
My melodies recorded upon the deaf mind

I stand in the cold and shiver
The rain beats out a quiver
The bottle pours out a river
Into what used to be my liver

Feel so high
See rain and sky
Spent breath nigh
The end a sigh

Soul delivered
Wholly withered
Leaky gizzard
Languid lizard

Sheesh Purp - I have night lizards that hang around the porch light; they are almost translucent. There is also a species of lounge lizard too, but haven't seen any since polyester pants and silk shirts fell into disfavor. I used to write some of my best stuff, just before getting totally smashed. Then I swore off it, learned about some of the technical aspects of poetry / prosody (I'm such a name dropper), and finally realized that I was a better poet when sober. I still keep a note pad on my nightstand. Join me in a cup of coffee and cheers! - Dan
