Peace Treaty

By Sean Mc Shane

Dear Other-me,
within my inner shadow you live
I'd like a moment of your mind,
which I don't really want to give . . .

Anyway - how's it going - dumb question, you know all too well,
because here I am again, bloody battered and half dead in this hell

we just had another worthless battle, I know you didn't forget
I was on your mark and you were just getting set

can ya still smell the wet ash, from your fires and my tears ?
how it followed us thru the holidays and past new year's

it was brutally sadistic, your pursuit runs far too deep
I can't even hide from you, in some nightmare sleep

and here we are yet again, preparing to battle once more
I will defeat you as always, but I know I'll never win this war

I finally realized . . . I'm just too old . . .
I'm far beyond tired . . . and everything is so cold . . .

But You . . .  You never age . . . you never ever tire . . .
You are relentless . . . with this self destructive desire . . .

You come out of nowhere, you run - hit - and hide
leaving me to scramble to save what has already died

or you trick my broken mind, confusing me with good intent
then I deliver it and realize, it was something you had sent

how ironic - sad really, that I love you still
You are a big part of me, but what I love - you kill

I look like a fool, to the ones I love so much
the Ones you will drive away, but it's me who loses touch

So . . . this war has got to stop, we've been waging it since seven
All good things - right ?  But not all good things can go to heaven

you did your job, you'll be rewarded in some hell
but I'm not the One who's going to be sharing your cell

I wish I could see your face, but it would mean nothing
I know you see mine now, and you know I'm not bluffing

sometimes the Righteous do fall,
just to end an endless fight
and to be rid of you finally,
is worth walking alone, forever, in Never's Black Light  . . .

. . . .

" Ey Mr. Righteous . . . this Peace treaty has blood all over it . . . "

" Ever seen one that didn't ? . . . "

We all do battle with ourselves, our egoic minds... I related personally with much of this piece, I retain hope that one day I can shut off the voice that my mind seems to believe is needed for survival. Hard to decipher the meaning of its purpose - XXOO Scholar

Those who soar highest, fall hardest (just read something similar in a Corinthian poem). Hoping that this was cathartic and you can now turn around in the saddle and dig those spurs in deeply!

Thanks dwells, and I totally agree. And I think based on recent comments you'd like to see the return of Cactus Clete Mc Gunns from Good Ole Days. I may have to work on that one. Thanks again. Later -
