Comfortably Miserable
By darkness falls
You stay, and you pray, everyday
For something to change
Just
when you're ready to give up, give in
Some small shred of hope surfaces
from that black water
You grab it and hold on for dear life, but it
slowly sinks
Leaving you treading water , alone again
This is
the way its been for years
So you cast about for some other way to
be comfortably miserable
A never ending battle to just hang on to
something
A lover, a relationship, a life, sanity
Constantly
swimming around trying to find anything
In this murky, cold water,
exhausted
You know you can turn toward the shore
But that would
be giving up everything you fought so hard for
But life is not fair,
it plays cruel tricks
When you decide to swim to shallower water you
turn
And realize the undertow has pulled you out so far
That
the shoreline has disappeared
All that time you just accepted being
comfortably miserable
Has brought you to the end...

Definitely a dejected and helplessly hopeless worldview, but shared by many victims around these here parts bro, cheers to you!

I can totally feel the depressive images and diction throughout this piece. A solid write capturing the emotional state of the subject.
A great read. Thx for sharing. : )
