Before the night is over (Tribute to Max Payne)

By Melancholic VIncent

Through the window of my appartment
I can see my worn-out face
In the thin glass weak reflection
Sprinkled by raindrops as fat as bullets

My bleak coat was as black as the night
Stained with the blood
Of all the women I failed to protect
Mine blood were filled with the missing scotch
That used to be in that bottle dripping from the table
Fallen like a chessboard king
Enough to fuel the self-pity of a pathetic fool

In a labyrinth of questions and dead-end streets
My mind kept playing tricks on me
I ended up indulging insane thoughts
Of betrayal and conspiracies
About things i am too stupid to comprehend

A smaller table holds the picture of my dead wife
Along with a flame licking on a pallid candle
Which caresses her sad angel's face with the same tenderness
On the drawer hides a pistol loaded with bullets
Pointing at me as if bound to my guilty consciousness

I pick the cold metal piece in the zeal of an avenging valkyrie
Venturing myself into the concrete jungle
I could feel the heart beat of the city beneath my feet
Or it was mine, now pumped with an adrenaline rush
I was numb for so long, that i forget what meant to be alive
Only the urge to kill had brought me the will to survive another night

I bid farewell to each of my bullets because before the night is over
They are going to be lodged in the brains of those that lead to my downfall
I merge into the darkness to find the psychopath that once was my bestfriend
The last bullet has his name carved on it and i will deliver it
Before the night is over i can finally rest with my family

I love pretty much anything Wahlberg does so I'm always a little biased...the movie wasn't my absolute favorite but I have a feeling it has everything to do with the fact that I don't know anything about the games...i knew it was a game no doubt...every kind of gamer out there has heard of it...i just don't have a pc at my house so i can't play it. Awesome though.

Yep, this poem was more based in the games than in the movie, and there's nothing wrong in not knowing them. But it would be good to take a look someday, not so much for playing it, but the story is great. It's mesmerizing

Exactly, the box of the game says: The Fall of Max Payne. A story of film noir love. I tried to bring that atmosphere in the poem.

Sounds like the intro to an old detective movie, Mickey Spillane maybe? Cheers Mel, I've left a few unfinished myself, and never posted (yet) - Cheers!

Well sorry, i started it but in a few days my imagination were out of gas so i put in there what i had for a future completion. The story of Max Payne is one of the most excelent stories i've ever seen, and it's language as well, it's inspired in Max Payne. Thanks for your contribution

...it's a great start, very 'graphic novel' dramatic...Wahlberg rocks in the movie!...

Yes indeed Wahlberg made a good Max Payne movie, but the movie came from the game which is the story is more involving, it's mesmerizing, i liked Max Payne 2 and now i'm playing 3. Of course, i don't except most people know deeply computer games. But it was the start of that excelent story
