Truth of the Night

By Sean Mc Shane

It was a long way to go,  so We walked on
out to the farthest edge,  the kind in a sad song

only to be sung at the end,  of a once glorious start
with no vengeance in the trials,  there's no denials tearing it all apart

. . .  so We left and wished on the same star
                                 with loose white lies
dragging certain reasons back thru a hole
with simple words building hard goodbyes

                                 moving into a shaded area
with a maiden of the desired dream
the essense of a serene goddess
who always ruled the golden scene

You came up with it quick
                                 I barely slapped it together
                                 running our numbers in reverse
calculating the odds of stormy weather

we found a new way to relocate
                                 but grandiose ideas soon whither
                                 white lies turn black
and back to Our hearts they slither

But on a much happier note, Baby !!
You can still muster a stellar smile
even manage to laugh at most of it
though only for a short while

Me, I just explain the mechanical mystery
bastardom ?  or some other weird incident
I just tell them my mother was Irish
and my father was a Farm Accident . . .

That brought Us to our wild garden,  where We found Our future graves
a strange and beautiful place,  with half of a sign that read . . . SAVES

We made Our own holidays under the gun,  always keeping a crack in the curtain
paranoia tries to discover a neon philosophy,  one that was proven to be certain

I realized then who I am,  I tried to hide in my dream empire
remembering on my late arrival,  I had left You at the Spring fire

creative circumstances brought You back,  helped You thru the high marble maze
Our feather dusted dilemas followed,  pushing Us into this drunken haze

couldn't have moved time any slower,  always an unseen barrier
wonder what awaits us now ?  ( and will I ever marry Her ? )

more clues to all of this,  divine mystery still holds Us tight
guide Us thru the dread of the day . . .  Love Us in the Truth of the Night

. . . but don't look for Us there, Baby
You remember the Hollow Hiltop ?
                                  I found Our secret there
                                  It's gonna make Your jaw drop . . .

The places you take me, I want a printed book of your work so I can take you with me up into the Olympic mountains, and read you while I'm curled up next to a blazing fire wrapped up in my comfy fleece robe and snuggling with my down blanket, drinking bottle after bottle of rum... I love the places your writing sends me to... - XXOO Scholar

...Partner, you walk the road to hell every day. Hemingway (& how many others?) walked, until he decided to hasten the journey...

Bastardom - genius! Really enjoyed this sad tale of two people perhaps who shared much but were doomed from the start and now share a one-sided secret maybe? This was great and I can relate. Thanks man.

Thanks, d. Glad ya dig the 'bastardom'. I guess some people would rather be miserable than alone. I used to be one of them. And as far as their secret ? . . I'm not sure either. Thanks for the b-mark high honor. Later -

Thanks, Cherry. Glad you enjoyed the ride. One of my fav things to do with writing, is to leave the end up to the reader. They can take it from there. Thanks again. Looking forward to reading you as well. Til next time -
