Addiction

By Demosthenes

You always think my hair looks perfect
No matter how or whether I bother to put it up
"So long and beautiful"
Even when I haven't washed it in three days

It's addictive how you like me more than I do
Never figured that was possible
Not that I mind or anything...

When you freeze in mid-sentence
And it takes me forever to quit staring at you long enough
To ask what's wrong
You tell me again
That I must have the greenest eyes you've ever seen
Even though they really look grey in this light
And it's ecstacy
Only legal

Come outside
Lie on the grass with me at dusk
Show me Taurus again
So we can laugh at how little it resembles the bull

When we don't go inside till morning
When there are ladybugs crawling in our hair
When the mosquitoes suck every last drop of blood from your ankles
When you don't mind
As long as they didn't get me

That's when you're everything
That's when you can't let me go
Because what if you're not really there?
Because what if you leave?
And I freeze and cry and go into convulsions?
Because what if that's how much of a drug you are to me?

If I told you it made me high
To know that if I fell asleep in your arms
You'd carry me to your bed and sleep on the couch
Would you laugh at me?
Or would you hold me until I did fall asleep
And prove me right once more?

Greeting the dark with an aching jaw
From smiling all day
From being with you
Waking up with it hurting more
From smiling all night
From just dreaming of you

This is what has me sucked in
This is what has me by the neck
This is what draws me back to you
Knows my secrets and threatens to tell the world
But I can keep it quiet

I can kiss you and make it forget
I can kiss you and make it leave
I can kiss you.

How's that for an addiction?
