cut root and stand up

By swing_the_hammer

we sleep with an ear to the ground
where we are safe and we are sound
we hide from the truth that was found
and bow to the earth where we are bound

let us stop living a lie
let us forget and forgive
before the last sands of time
slip through our hands like a sive
'cause i'm not afraid to die
if you're not afraid to live

we trade in our dreams pound for pound
and drink from the bottle where many have drowned
we sleep with an ear to the ground
where silence is the loudest sound

well, i want to reach for the sky
and find stars are velvet-lined
to comfort the echoing sigh
of the dark where we've long resigned
please end all this eye for an eye
before all the world ends up blind

we keep holding each other down
hoping something better comes around
we sleep with an ear to the ground
telling ourselves not to make a sound

but i want to stand up- to fly!
i can't dream here anymore
it's time to say my goodbye
to tired- to hungry- to poor
when barely scraping by
just doesn't satisfy like before

as the belly of the beast grows round
we're told to believe every lie
caught in the web that we've wound
but that's no good way to die-
we may sleep with an ear to the ground...

but let's wake with an ear to the sky!

kind of like a mad artist on stage ripping herself-apart.... gave me vivid thoughts
