Forgotten Gods

By nightshade

I close my eyes trying to warm up inside
But it is all done in vain
My soul dies within me
As darkness calls out my name
I stand before a shattered altar
And tears of anger burn my skin
I pray to a forgotten god
Hoping he will burn away my sin
Here I kneel wounded inside
Wishing to wash away my pain
To free myself of this hatred
And it’s dark ebony stain
Living a life built upon shattered dreams
Full of discontent as hope is taken by time's stream

"Darkness calls my name", that line sent a shiver down my spine. A rich, atmospheric piece. ~L
