Life Like A Machine
By darkness_descends
Life like a machine
Or so it does seem
Nothing to hide
No emotions inside
Just weathered and worn
Tattered and torn
Fixed like a statue
Watching life in slanted view
While death takes mine
And not even a sting flashes in my eyes
As loved ones come and cruelly go
I stand with dirty blood pouring from icy veins
Over rusted joints yet still no pain
Buried somewhere deep my consciousness remains
Trapped, vaulted, and locked away
Life like a machine
This stolid mausoleum erected around me
Where once a beating heart stood
Emptiness now occupies where emotion should
Fires raging burn so cold
Mingling with lingering spectres, emotions of old
Wispy memories clouding over deluded eyes
Confusing recollections with spectacular lies
Pleading screams are hushed through whispered cries
And the fading human flame in me flickers then dies
A being once real and pure
Now suspended in a horrific torture
What is left is what you see
An unfeeling existence, life like a machine
