today is the day (2 poems)
By Sky Singer
the first of these two poems was written
by one of my very dear friends around the end of may 2003.
the second i wrote over the course of three days:
starting oct 7, and finishing it today, the 10th.
enjoy
enemy of incandescence
today is the day...
today is the day i have grown older...
...and wiser.
today is the day that my knowledge
will have escaped me in a shatter of mind,
a broken skull, a decayed life.
sitting outside in the sun is remembrance
of the days of enjoyment, the days of love,
the days of remembrance, the days worth remembrance.
saturation by the sun’s incandescence
is just a piercing reminder of what was lost.
maybe is a word of hesitation and ignorance
to where one’s life is directed.
i’ve scratched this word from my lexicon
only to provoke the addition of four more...
TODAY... IS... THE... DAY...
today is the day when realization
and self-actualization are addressed
and the awareness of depression, namely mine,
are to come to an end.
for as much as i love the sun,
the memories it holds from the past,
the enjoyment it once held,
i know that in the end,
after all the love, the joy, the happiness,
and after the loss of it all,
i know that in the end i’m only going to be shattered,
shattered beneath the shade.

dawn of a new day
lonely days and
restless nights
have remained
the product of a thousand
painful tears.
with each new tear
that escapes an already
bloodshot eye,
another corner
of my heart
is laid to ruin,
left in shambles.
the pure torment
i have endured
has become
the splinter
in my mind.
devoid of sleep,
lack of appetite.
breathing has been
my only
train of thought.
but today
I start anew,
thus I have
replaced tears
with a smile.
no longer shall
I think of you
and cry,
for I shall think
of the pain I,
in return,
have caused you
...and laugh:
this is the
end
and I have
won.
this is the
end
and today
I start anew,
thus I have
adopted a new
notion:
TODAY...IS...THE...DAY...
