Last call for Memphis

By molock

I'm gonna take a
Southbound train to Memphis,
there's a lonesome wind
callin' me home.
did i hear one last call
for a Jesus?
a penny for my sins,
a nickel for my soul.

I'm goin' back to
where i was raised,
gonna find myself
in some forgotten
yesterday.
last call for Jesus,
last call for faith.
last call for Memphis
on that Southbound
train.

here i am,
at this empty railway
station...
but I'm not alone.
with this old guitar as
my companion,
I'll always have a song
to carry me home.
so roll on Memphis,
take me on down the line.
I'm lookin' for salvation,
walkin' backwards  through
time...

maybe by morning,
I'll find some faith...
one more bottle of
bourbon,
and some saving
grace.
last call for me,
last call for change.
Memphis is still three
days away.

I'm goin' back to
where i was raised,
gonna try and find
myself,
in some forgotten
yesterday.
last call for Jesus,
last call for faith.
last call for Memphis,
on that Southbound train.

This truly would make a great song. I got this feel good song vibe. I agree with Kaiser this would sound great played with an acoustic guitar. Write on.

Gimme some of that old time religion; praise the Lord and pass the bottle Mo! Would that we could go home again... Sean McShane rode his 3-legged horse named Tripod, into town backwards; just to see where he had been! Kind of reminds me of that poem of his (can't recall the title). Strum that guitar and fire up the Barbie. Cheers my friend! - Dan

Amen brother, nothin' like home for some soul searchin'. I keep hearing about this McShane fella from various places, almost like the collective conscience wants me to check it out, so now it's on my list of things to do. I agree we can't really ever go home, it's some where in the past. peace my brother. - mo
