Vanity

By megaprime81

Fame is vanity
All the world seeks vanities
That fulfill not the void in the soul
I've sought vanity
It brings no pleasure
What is vanity?
Success, according to the world
Pleasure, according to the world
Fortune, according to the world
What is not vanity?
Seeking the benefit of others,
Giving your life for your country
Living life not according to the world
Being self-less and compassionate
Loving God, your family, and friends
Without prior concern for oneself
Vanity profits nothing
Ultimately, it leaves us empty
For it may be fun for a season,
But when that season's up,
There is no sense of profit
And misery can run deep into the soul
