Broken

They say God can't use you
Until you've been broken;
I know what they mean,
For 'til I was broken,
I was useless

My heart and mind
Became fragmented,
Sin was winning in my life
I became unGodly
Until eventually,
God was my sole recourse

Since I've been broken,
God is in my sight
He's always been present
Though I didn't perceive Him
In my life
But now that I've been broken,
I see Him everywhere
In all I see and hear

God has always been here,
But 'til I was broken
I was blind
Now I can see more clearly
And God controls my life

And yes, we do make choices and aren't mindless drones; my relationships with people had to suffer to the point that I was a broken man for me to make the right choice. In the Bible it says the faith is not of ourselves; I lacked the faith to make a change until I was at my lowest point, relationships in tatters and ruins, from trying to do things my way. If I try to run the show, I'm going to mess it up. That's not to say that whatever talents or skills I may use (such as poetry) can't have an element of originality, but I want to praise Him for what He's done and is going to do in my life because of His power and love. Of myself, I can do nothing (but ruin things for me).
