Ninety-Five

By Deathkitten

I'm ready to leave
On my way out the door
I grab the keys
Unlock my car
Jump in & buckle up
It's not far
Just up the street
Around the corner
Every day
They call a number
It stays the same
No need to wonder
I sit & wait in line
Sometimes, they're all behind
They call him quickly
And always by name
Or number
Which remains the same
I watch him
Blue colored eyes
Short brown hair
Peach skin
Chubby cheeks
Still like a baby
A part of me
He's short
And stout
Looks sweet
He wanders
Unfocused
But I always see
He lopes toward my car
Sometimes, he'll sprint or leap
Wearing a smile or frown
A memory i'll forever keep
He tosses his back pack
And climbs in the back seat
I ask him how his day was
He replies
"Today was good
Look
I made a crown
I shared a snack with Sadie
And pushed some boy on the ground"
Number ninety-five
You're the apple of my eye
No matter what
My heart you will reside

What's in a name, or number, and pondering the difference. Guessing he's being picked up at pre-school maybe, regardless - a well told tale and someday we'll all be numbers.
