Kill Your Darlings

By Sean Mc Shane

When you read my words
that form the tales I tell
can you feel the background
                   of a smoldering Hell ?
That takes over the Golden idea
                   rewritten thru death dreams
tragic lovers and an open road
                   secret ends with unheard screams

Then reality cracks the fragile phantasy's shell
the dark seeps in between each chapter
the pen is attracted to this poison
as it begins to silence the laughter
making love until midnight past
now an empty act of masterbation
skip ahead to the deeper pages
enter the darker chambers of my creation

the characters begin to break down
heading in seperate directions toward zero
each knowingly, but not expecting
to face the Glorious End as a fallen hero
the darkness will disguise itself as sunshine
pulling you into it's unnatural heat
eventually burning away all enchantment
never knew playing God could be so sweet

And on that note - I never show mercy
to my own limits or theirs
stick it in- break it off
in the End we'll see who cares
cuz ya never know, man
when your last write is your last
make sure they know ya had fun
make sure they know it's a thing of the past . . .

My darlings are more precious than your darlings! But then maybe that could just be me too? The characters can break down when age takes its toll, and the old become fearful of the Glorious End, or also if too frail to shoulder burdens. Much enjoyed the positive message in summation - cheers pal!
