Merlin's Revenge
By Malcholm Dark
Twas
a time of kings and castles
Of wizards and magical spells
Armored
knights and fields of battle
Such things renowned, for I was there.
I saw the dragon at midnight
A swirling mist upon this land
Set upon by a wizard's wrath
And all at once, I am no more.
Lovely maidens and robust wines
I shall never taste them again
Merlin's revenge was so complete
Ashes to dust, I am no more.
Roses black over faded time
Arthurian dreams forgotten
My history now rewritten
A man erased, I am no more.
Oblivion
and destiny
Melded into one forever
Warrior-king of long ago
An unknown man... who never was.

Makes me nostalgic for 'Excalibur', the fine film from '81, still my favorite interpretation. It's likely that the real "King Arthur" was of Roman ancestry. I also have a softspot for the legend. Enjoyed these words, Mr. Dark, glad to see you around again.

Blame it on the minstrels and bards, good one Malcholm! Co-incidentally, I posted an update on the Pendragon tale almost exactly one year ago, entitled "Camelot D.C." - cheers sir.
